The term 'stablecoin' has now gone mainstream, and it was probably the first time many had heard of it. A stablecoin is a digital asset that aims to maintain the same value as a stable asset, or basket of assets. The US dollar has been the most common asset to date.

Two economists at VoxEU analyze algorithmic stablecoins. A branch of cryptocurrencies called stablecoins has been trying to create dependability within digital currencies. But a blowup of Terra’s UST, powered by algorithms and Luna tokens, left $60 billion of market value up in smoke and battered many investors.
